Emmy Award-nominated and BAFTA-winning executive producer and format creator James McKinlay has spent 20 years in television, evenly split between the U.K. and U.S.

In the U.K., he worked as a series producer on such seminal hits as “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” “Big Brother” and “The X Factor.” McKinlay was hired by Simon Cowell to launch “America’s Got Talent,” on which he worked for seven years as co-executive producer overseeing format development, production and post-production. During that period, he also worked for SYCO and Simon Cowell on U.K. and U.S. format development within FOX Studios.

Following “America’s Got Talent,” McKinlay became the executive producer and showrunner of multi-Emmy Award nominee and global hit “Lip Sync Battle,” whose executive producers and creators included Stephen Merchant, John Krasinki and LL Cool J. He oversaw 47 episodes and two specials of the series, executed by a team of more than 60 production staff members.

McKinlay executive-produced the network music series “Greatest Hits,” alongside legendary 40-year Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich; and 14 episodes of FOX’s “Showtime at the Apollo,” hosted by Steve Harvey.

He also created the comedy panel format “Dub Wars,” which has sold in Australia and has pilots with various networks in the U.S.
